Parus cyanus (Azure Tit)

Scientific name: Parus cyanus Pallas 1770

Bird group: Tits and allies

Field characters. 13 cm. Larger than Blue Tit and lacks any yellow. Blue, grey and white. Head white with black eye-stripe extending into neck and around cheeks, upperparts blue, underparts white, tail longer than in Blue Tit and blue with white sides. Wings with white bar. Sometimes interbreeds with Blue Tit; hybrids have mixed characters and are called Pleske's Tit.

Voice. Call like Long-tailed Tit: 'chirrup'.

Distribution. Rare in extreme east of region.

Habitat. Prefers bushes near fresh water rather than woodlands.

Food. Probably invertebrates and seeds, like other tits.
