Aquila adalberti (Spanish Imperial Eagle)

Scientific name: Aquila adalberti Brehm, 1861

Bird group: Birds-of-prey

Field characters. Length 72-83 cm; wingspan 190-210 cm. Closely similar to Imperial Eagle but patches on outer mantle and scapulars larger and more white and with a conspicuous white leading edge to wing. Ground colour of juvenile uniformly rufous-red (instead of sandy yellow); generally unstreaked.

Voice. Similar to Imperial Eagle.

Distribution. Rare, nowadays in Spain only; formerly in NW Africa, Portugal and S France.

Habitat. Open Corkoak forest and dunes with scattered trees.

Food. Similar to Imperial Eagle.
