(Part of the) common name of Coscoroba coscoroba and Cygnus spp., all in the tribe Anserini (together with the 'true geese') of the subfamily Anserinae of the Anatidae (Duck family). Male swans are sometimes called 'cob' and females 'pen'. There are nine species of swans; all large, herbivorous, aquatic birds with particular long necks and powerful, spatulate bills, which show no sexual dimorphism in plumage.
