Most common name (British) for Erithacus rubecula, but the name has been applied in the English-speaking world to local species resembling the prototype in being redbreasted (or in other ways), e.g., in North America to the familiar Turdus migratorius, the Indian Robin Saxicoloides fulicata which is a chat (subfamily Turdinae) and other species of Turdinae ('scrub-robin, 'bush-robin'). In the Australasian Region the name is used for various Muscicapinae (flycatchers and related) species.
